Mary Susan Wurm Leitner, age 95, passed away on Friday, February 16, at Maui Memorial Hospital, Hawaii.

Mary was born February 17, 1911 to George and Elizabeth Wurm in a sod house on her grandparent's place near Traer, Kansas. She was the second of six children. She attended school in Kansas through the eighth grade. She then helped her mother at home and helped many other family members and friends with housekeeping and caring for their children. She loved gardening, flowers, and people, especially babies.

She was married to George Leitner in Herndon, Kansas on November 12, 1929. They had four children, including one daughter who passed away as an infant. They moved to Mount Vernon in 1943. They celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary in November 2000.

During her married life she took care of many children, including her children and grandchildren, and worked summers at Kerr's Custom Canning in Mount Vernon. Until her move to live with her daughter in Hawaii, she had been an active member of Salem Lutheran Church since 1943.

She was preceded in death by her husband George in August of 2001, and an infant daughter, Joyce Ann.

She is survived by two daughters and son-in-law's Marilyn and Daryl Dickerhoof of Mount Vernon, Donna and Glen Larson of Kihei, Hawaii, a son and daughter-in-law Ron and Skip Leitner of Mount Vernon, a sister Elsie Hayes of Hutchinson, Kansas, a brother Bob Wurm of Oberlin, Kansas, sister-in-laws Emma Oakden of Seattle and Louis Leitner of Kansas, eleven grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren.

Mary's life was filled with family, church and friends. She will always be remembered as a sweet, giving, loving person, cherished dearly by her family.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Maui Memorial Hospital for their excellent care of Mary during her illness, and especially Doctor Bulatovick.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at 1:00PM at the Salem Lutheran Church with Pastor Kevin Forquer officiating.

Arrangements and services are under the care of Kern Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Salem Lutheran Church, 2529 N. LaVenture Road, Mount Vernon, WA 98273.
