August H. Onnen, longtime resident of the Fairbury-Gladstone area, died in a Fairbury, Neb., hospital Friday, July 28, 1961, at the age of 69 years. He had been in failing health for about three months.
He was born Nov. 13, 1891, on a farm near Gladstone, Neb., the son of Gerhard Onnen and Katherine Broeder Onnen. He grew to manhood in the west Gladstone community.
In 1913 he married Bertha Wendlandt and to them one daughter was born. Soon after their marriage they located on a farm west of Gladstone, a half-mile south of Trinity Lutheran church. He was engaged in farming for many years and in 1947 moved into Gladstone. In 1951 the couple moved to Fairbury and have been residing at 919 K street.
The decedent was a member of Trinity Lutheran church, west of Gladstone, all his life. He served the congregation at various times as elder, trustee, and member of the Board of Christian Education.
Surviving are his wife, daughter, Lucille, Mrs. Victor Bangert of Gladstone; two granddaughters, Karen and Marsha Bangert, and two sisters, Mrs. Oscar Bauer of Gladstone and Miss Anna Onnen of Fairbury.
Funeral services were Monday morning at Trinity Lutheran church, west of Gladstone, the Rev. A. Wittrock, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Ernest Siebenneicher, the church organist, played and vocalists were Mrs. Edward Bauer, Mrs. Wayne Siebenneicher, Edward M. Bauer and Donald Bauer. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Arnold Onnen, Alvin Onnen, Wilbur Onnen, Elden Bauer, Harold Bauer and Oscar M. Bauer.
