Worth was the oldest son and only a teenager when he was killed in the woods with his friend, Benjamin Schultz, by a falling tree; there are two versions told about the accident. In one version, he and Benny were cutting shingle bolts from a hemlock tree when the tree they were cutting fell on them. The other story is that they were watching men cutting tannery wood when a cut tree fell on them.
