"Mr. Balkam was born in Attleboro, Mass., Nov. 25, 1770, married Abigail Smith of Norton, Mass. April 22,1795 who was born June 29, 1771. Between the years 1800 and 1802 with his wife and three children he came to Plantation No. 4, Washington County, now Robbinston, where were born to him and his wife Abigail six children. Abigail was the daughter of David Smith and Abigail Gilbert, who married March 14, 1754, Norton, Massachusetts.
