Anchorage resident Ross Orland Harrington, 69, died May 14 at Alaska Regional Hospital. A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Tuesday at First Congregational Church with Chaplin Steven Humburg of Alaska Regional Hospital officiating. Mr. Harrington was born Feb. 25, 1925, in Mars Hill, Maine. He served with the Army 82nd Airborne during World War II. His military duties took him to Africa, Italy, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Germany. He earned the Purple Heart with two Oak Leaf clusters. He was also decorated with the European Treater of Operations with five battle ships, Belgian Cross of War Citation, French Citation medal, Dutch Victoria Cross, Presidential Unit Citation with two Oak Leaf clusters, Victory Medal with Palm, Allied Cross Ribbon, good conduct medal and American Defense Ribbon. Since 1972 Mr. Harrington has lived in Alaska. He worked as a commercial construction foreman for several companies in Anchorage and Valdez. He retired in 1980. He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Anchorage; sons and daughters-in- law, Glenn and Sherry of Portsmouth, N.H., Edward and Cindy of Anchorage, Stevena and Sheila of Palmer; daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Stephen Lalime of Portsmouth, N.H.; and 10 grandchildren. Memorials may be sent to the American Diabetes Association, Alaska Affiliate, Inc., 800 E. Dimond Blvd., Suite 3-218, Anchorage, Alaska 99515, or to the Heart Association, 2330 E. 42nd Ave., Anchorage, Alaska 99508. Arrangements were handled by Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
