Chugiak resident Troy F. Gilley, 82, died of natural causes April 2, 2003, at home. Visitation will be at noon Tuesday at Evergreen's Eagle River Funeral Home, 11046 Chugiak Drive, with a service beginning at 1 p.m. The Rev. Don McCullough will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow at Fort Richardson National Cemetery. Mr. Gilley was born March 4, 1921, in Elk City, Okla. He attended school through the eighth grade and served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II. He served from Nov. 28, 1942, until his honorable discharge Dec. 4, 1945. A resident of Alaska since June 1959, Mr. Gilley worked with the civil service at Elmendorf Air Force Base from 1960 until his retirement in 1983. Mr. Gilley is survived by his wife, Maye Gilley of Chugiak; daughters, Velva Fowler of Chugiak, Linda Achenbach of Big Horn, Wyo., and Charlotte Scott of Ellensburg, Wash.; granddaughters, Lona Fowler of Anchorage, Lela Hartgrave and Gracie Fowler of Chugiak, Shannon Jackson of Spring, Texas, Tara and Lisa Achenbach of Big Horn, and Leah and Marvin Hofstrand of Washington state; grandsons, Robert York of Spring and Herbie Achenbach of Big Horn; and 10 great-grandchildren in Alaska, Washington, Wyoming and Texas. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Johnnie York, and grandson, Jimmie York. Arrangements were with Evergreen's Eagle River Funeral Home.
