Janis was born in Somerset, Kentucky on August 9th, 1937, daughter of the late Glen and Marie Coleman Gover. She was a graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Education, and a retired teacher for the Virginia Public Schools. Janis was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church.
Janis was survived by her loving husband, J. Ralph King; two sons, James Ralph King, Jr. of Durham, North Carolina and Jeffrey Allen (and Cynthia) King of Lake Worth, Florida; three grandchildren, James Ralph King, Caroline Marie King, and Nicholas Brandt King, all of Lake Worth, Florida; one sister, Jean (and Thomas) Watkins of Lexington, Kentucky; one brother, Glen Gover, Jr. of Berea, Kentucky; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews who were very special to her.
Visitations were held after 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 8th, 2013 at the Centenary United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 8th, 2013 at the Centenary United Methodist Church.
A private family burial followed in the Lexington Cemetery.
The Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on Harrodsburg Road was in charge of the arrangements for Janis.
