Mrs. Joy B. Goodman was born November 22, 1930 in Sulphur, Oklahoma, the daughter of Otis Lee Elkins and Vennie Mae (Crouse) Elkins. Her siblings include Wayne Keith Elkins of San Antonio, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, O. L. Elkins.

She married Bill L. Goodman on September 8, 1951. He survives as do children, Barbara Lay of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; Phillip Goodman of Jonesboro; Mark Goodman of Paducah, Kdentucky; Ronald Goodman of Tallahassee, Florida and Anthony Goodman of Plainfield.

Mrs. Goodman earned her BSN degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and her RN from St. Anthony's in Oklahoma City. She was a Flite Nurse with Life Beat for many years. In 1972, she made the first civilian nurse helicopter flight in the USA, a trip fro Carbondale to Springfield. She was valedictorian of her 1948 High School Class in Paoli, Oklahoma. Mrs. Goodman was a member of the Anna Heights Baptist Church.

She died at the age of 69 in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
