Thomas R. Perniciaro, 76, of Plainville, beloved husband of Helen (Buraczynski) Perniciaro, died Friday (May 23, 2003) at New Britain General Hospital after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Born in New Britain on Apr. 26, 1927. A New Britain native and former resident, he moved to Plainville in 1978. A World War II U.S. Army veteran, he was employed at GE in Plainville for 38 years, retiring in 1992. While working at GE, he owned two All Seasons Liquor Stores from 1970 to 1987 and later owned and operated Nutrition Kingdom of Plainville for the past 14 years. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in New Britain and was a former Church Council member. Tom was also a member of VFW Post 511 in New Britain and Friendship Lodge, AF&AM of Southington.
Besides his wife Helen, he leaves a son, Robert G. Perniciaro and his wife Annette of Manchester; 2 daughters, June O’Leary and her husband Robert of Southington, and Nancy Giannini and her husband John of New Britain; 2 brothers, Samuel Perniciaro and his wife Muriel of Plainville, and Frank Perniciaro and his wife Theresa of Golden, CO; a sister, Vita Talar and her husband Stanley of Oceanside, CA; 8 grandchildren, Robert T. Perniciaro; Gwen Hyde and her husband Thomas; Douglas, Katie, and Eileen O’Leary; and Gabriel, John, and Alixandria Giannini; 2 great granddaughters, Madison and Lindsay Hyde; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother and sister, Anthony Perniciaro and Connie Williams. Thomas will be remembered as a deeply loving, joyful, and committed man. His motto was: “we care”, and he cared for all. A wonderful family man, friend, and mentor to many, he lived and died grateful for the chance to make a difference.
Burial with military honors will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Southington.
