Former Alaska resident and frequent visitor CHARLES INDAHL, 49, died while working Dec. 19, 2002, in Grand Rapids, Mich. A memorial service was held at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 8427 Jewel Lake Road. Another service of remembrance was later in Louisville, Ky.

Mr. Indahl was born in Bemidji, Minn., on June 30, 1953. He was raised on Minnesota's Mesabi Iron Range and attended Mount Iron High School. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the Army. He became a veteran of the Vietnam War and later served in West Germany. In the early 1980s he attended the University of Alaska Anchorage and the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and worked in Fairbanks as an electrician. Mr. Indahl later worked as both a millwright and a carpenter. For the past 20 years he had lived in Louisville, Ky. His family wrote: ''Chuck was adored by his family. He was both generous and caring. His quick wit, accompanied by a keen and irreverent sense of humor, kept us in stitches. His passions were travel, scuba diving, golf, Scrabble and, most of all, his relationships with friends and family. He will be dearly missed.'' He was preceded in death by his father, Wallace Indahl; his niece, Annette Rodorigo; and his nephew, Nick Indahl.

Mr. Indahl is survived by his mother, Luella Indahl of Anchorage; his brother and sister-in-law, Stephen and Marcie Indahl of Anchorage; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Lee Moeglein of Settler's Bay, Julie and Jim Rodorigo of Mount Iron, Minn., and Kathy and Dan Pratt of Everett, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
