The quiet of the mining town of Putney was disturbed on the night of April 4, 1909, by the sudden and unexpected death of John Albert Bostwick, a highly respected citizen of that town. Mr. Bostwick leaves a widow and six children to morn his loss. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. and the Knights of Pythias.
On the day of the funeral the Campbell's Creek Coal Company paid an unusual tribute to his memory by closing their mines for the day. The service was in charge of Rev. C. W. Ocheltree, of the M. E. church, who preached the funeral sermon from I Sam. 15:32. The remains were buried in the Cemetery at Putney and at the grave the rituals of the Odd Fellows and Knights of Pythias were beautifully and impressively used. The sorrowing relatives have the sympathy of the entire community.
