His birth year is uncertain. The tombstone says 1833, which is what is used here. A biography published in HISTORY OF DADE COUNTY AND ITS PEOPLE, 1917, Pages 172-173 says 1830, but also misspells his surname as Meyers and has other verifiable errors, so the accuracy of the birth year is also questionable.

From his age at these dated events, it is more likely 1831 or 1832:
1850 Census, Polk County, Iowa = 1831
1856 Census, Polk County, Iowa = 1832
1860 Census, Pottawatomie Co., KS = 1832
1862 Army Enlistment (Kansas) = 1831
1870 Census, Dade County, Missouri = 1832

When just a lad, Charles B. Myers was taken by his father from Ohio to Vermilion County, Illinois where he grew to manhood. He later moved to Washington County, Iowa and then Polk County, Iowa.

He was first married 27 January 1853 in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa to Miss Susannah Pierce, who died in 1862. They had two children, born in Des Moines:

Luvilla, born Sep 1853, married Archer Franklin Percy

Mary Elizabeth, born 26 November 1855, married Benjamin Franklin Simcoke.

Shortly after the birth of Mary, the family moved to Vienna Township, Pottawatomie County, Kansas. He was elected constable there in 1858.

Charles was a veteran of the Civil war, having enlisted in Company A, Kansas 2nd Cavalry Regiment on 10 September 1862. He later transfered to Company B and was discharged at Fort Smith, Arkansas.

After the war, he moved to Everton in Dade county, Missouri in 1866, where he was a successful farmer. Here he married again 24 February 1867 to Miss Sarah Ann Cox, daughter of Jacob and Louisa (Johnson) Cox of South Greenfield in Dade County. Sarah was born 19 February 1843 and died 11 January 1926.

They moved to Jasper County, Missouri by 1880, but returned to Dade County by 1890.

To their union five children were born:

Susan Elmira, born 29 January 1868, married (1) Isaac Bowles; (2) Timothy Gillaspy.

Lillie, born 10 February 1869, died 6 March 1869

Mecie Beatrice "Joie", born 8 October 1876 married Henry Arthur Cotter

Elsie Lee, born 10 November 1880, died 18 December 1882

Charles Bernard, born 27 June 1883, died 5 Apr 1959; married Minnie Wilhite
