NARA War Department records list his Next of Kin's Home of Record as Mother: Mrs. Ruth Fowler, 3047 Vermont, Route 6, Independence, Missouri.
PFC Anderson, Carlson’s Raiders, was Killed in Action, during heavy fighting with Japanese forces at a river crossing near the village of Asamana on Guadalcanal.
Miller, and three other Marines who also had died in the fighting, were buried near where they had fallen. On May 2, 1943, their graves were located. All were first buried on Guadalcanal. After the war Miller's remains were returned to the United States.
