Esq. John C. Stephenson, one of the very best men in Lincoln County, died at his residence near Howell at 6:30 o'clock Wednesday morning. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and his every act attested to his Christian character; his life was spotless and his example will be emulated by his family and will be their most sacred treasure. He served in the Confederate Army, in the 41st Tennessee Regiment, and received a wound which never healed and has proved a heavy drain on his constitution. The people had confidence in his judgment and fairness and more than once elected him to the office of Justice of the Peace to arbitrate their differences and assist in the management of the county affairs. Funeral service will be conducted at the residence Thursday morning by Rev. W R. M. Crump; burial at Rose Hill.
