Darrell L. McGee, 59, of Galesburg, died at 2 p.m. Friday, October 4, 2013 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

Darrell was born August 2, 1954 in Galesburg, the son of Burrel "Fibber" and Velma B. (Hillier) McGee. He married Mary Leeson on January 24, 1975 in Galesburg. He is survived by his parents, of Galesburg; his wife, Mary of Galesburg; and one brother, Barry Dean (Pam) McGee of Galesburg. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews including niece, Traci (Sam) Anderson of Rockton and nephew, Dean McGee of Galesburg; and many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother Timothy McGee and one sister, Laurie McGee.

Darrell worked as a welder for Bixby-Zimmer for 28 years. Since 2006 he had been working for Alexis Fire Equipment. Darrell spent many years racing late model and modified cars at area race tracks gaining quite the following of fans. After he finished his racing career he enjoyed fishing and became an avid golfer.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life for Darrell will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, October 11, 2013 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Galesburg. The family requests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made in Darrell's honor to OSF ST. Mary Medical Center C.O.P.S. Unit or to Knox County Relay for Life. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Thomas Funeral Home, Galesburg.
