David Herbert Melby passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at the age of 53. He was born on July 1, 1959, in New Richmond, Wisconsin to Herbert and Arliss Melby. David graduated from New Richmond High School in 1977 and later enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for four years. He was united in marriage to Janice Evenson on May 28, 1993. David started out his career working for Haines Tree Service and later L.Z. Equipment. Most recently he was a self-employed truck driver for Menards and for a landscaping and tree service. David enjoyed the outdoors hunting and fishing, especially on the St. Croix River, spending days at the lake with his family water skiing and tubing, playing horseshoes and later grilling. David was active in his church serving on the Lutefisk Committee and helped with snow plowing. David was helpful to all and could be called upon anytime to serve. He always found time to help anyone out and was one of the most unselfish people around. David was preceded in death by his father, Herbert H. Melby, and father- in- law, Donald L. Evenson, brother -in- law Glenn Evenson, as well as an infant granddaughter, Skylar Hanson. He is survived by his loving wife, Janice; children, Stacy (Joel) Hanson, Bradley Smith, Nick (Nikki) Johnson, Lindsey Peterson and Brett Melby. He is also survived by his mother, Arliss Melby; siblings, Craig (Sue) Melby, Cheryl (Larry) Standaert, Carol (Terry) Peterson, Nancee Melby and Scott Melby. He is also survived by his mother- in- law, Agnes Evenson; brothers- in- law, Keith (Nancy) Evenson, John Evenson, Dwight Evenson and Gerald Evenson; sister- in- law, Faye (Todd) Bibeau and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at West Immanuel Lutheran Church, 447 180th St., Osceola, Wisconsin. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at the West Immanuel Lutheran Church, as well as the hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
