Harvey was born the son of Oliver and Agnes (Olson) Hadland on July 7, 1925 in Grand Forks, ND. He was confirmed in Augustana Lutheran Church, Grand Forks, N.D. After high school he was drafted and proudly served his country from 1943-1946 during World War II in Italy.
He returned to Grand Forks and attended Aaker's Business College. Gene Goodman, Bud Stowe, and Harvey established Northern Plumbing Supply where he worked as manager until his retirement. He considered all of Northern Plumbing as his second family. Harvey was a member of the Elks, Exchange Club, and the American Legion.
