Mr. Armstead united with Saint Peter Baptist Church of Allen at an early age. He retired as a logger and was a joy to be around. He will be remembered for his love of hunting, being jolly and sharing a joke or two with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Hurst and Maple Wiley.
Left to cherish his loving memory is his devoted family, including daughter, Carolyn Cook (Roy L.) Miller; two grandsons, Roy Cook and Lymetrius (Tonya) Cook, all of Mobile; two sisters, Carolyn Jean (Emmett) Price of Inglewood, Calif. and Urtha (J.W.) Leggett of Mobile; six brothers, Alvin (Rose) Armstead of Ridgeville, S.C., Eddie (JoAnn) Armstead of Suggsville, Preston Armstead of Los Angeles, Calif., Jerry (Lorraine) Armstead of Jackson, Ondra Armstead of Grove Hill and Marshall (Rebecca) Armstead of New York, N.Y.; one brother-inlaw, James Hurst of Los Angeles; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Services will be Saturday, Jan. 7, 1 p.m., from the Saint Peter Baptist Church with the Rev. Matthew Davis, pastor and the Rev. Tyrone Pogue, eulogist. Viewing will be Saturday, 12 noon until the funeral hour at 1. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Andrews Funeral Home in Jackson.
