Penny Lynn Reed, age 62 of Bussey, died Friday, October 4, 2013, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Penny was born August 26, 1951, to Paul Eugene and Lois(Kendall)Mahon at Smith Hospital in Albia. She married Steve Reed on March 30, 1968, at the Bussey Methodist Church, and to this union, a son, Jason, was born. Penny and Steve shared 45 years of marriage together before her passing.

Penny grew up and attended school in Twin Cedars and Knoxville. She worked at the Pella overall factory, Spurgin's and Hy-Vee in Knoxville, and Pella Corporation for 24 years, retiring in 2002 due to health.

Penny was a member of the Bussey United Methodist Church, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, and was active in Sunday school and Susan G.Komen walks for brest cancer. She enjoyed caring for and riding her horses, collecting carousels, gardening, reading, and golfing. She was a great cook and was very good at making dumpling noodles, rolls, and bread. She especially loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Penny is survived by her husband, Steve of Bussey; a son, Jason(Marti)Reed of Oskaloosa and their children, Joe and Morgan; her mother, Lois Mahon of Bussey; three grandchildren, Matt, Dezarae, and Heather; two great grandchildren, Matthew and Izaiah; a sister, Sue(Bob)Mallory of Attica; and several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law; and sisters-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her father, Paul; and a niece, Chelsea, in infancy.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at Bussey United Methodist Church in Bussey; with Pastor Jill Leveck officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Bussey. Visitation will be 12-8 pm Monday, October 7, 2013, at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Penny's family present from 6-8 pm. Memorials may be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Heartland Humane Society, or the Wounded Warrior Project.
