First Lieutenant Buxman was a member of Company D, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. On June 5, 1953, he was the co-pilot of a LT-6G Mosquito control aircraft from the 6148th Tactical Air Control Squadron, 6147 Tactical Air Control Group. While on a combat mission, his aircraft received a direct hit by anti-aircraft fire and crashed. He was listed as Missing in Action and was presumed dead on June 6, 1954.

Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman's Badge, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
