Lina Carolyn "Carrie" Welborn married Jeremiah "Jerry" Woodford Matherly on the 14 of Oct 1876 in Muhlenberg, Kentucky.

Carrie was the daughter of Frances Rachel Newman, (1824-1899) and Moses Wickliffe Welborn (1819-1893)

In the 1880 census, Moses and Frances Welborn, L.C's parents lived next door. Bobby Anderson referred to Moses as a pioneer and stated that he married Ms Welborn from the Cabbage Crossing area

Children of  Jerry and Lina Carolyn (Welborn) Matherly:
Clifton (Alonzo Clifton "Lon" "Lonnie") Matherly b. 18 Jun 1878 d. 19 Oct 1952
Pearly Matherly  b. Nov 1879  She married Kennerly Baugh -they had four children, Vera, Velma, Ruth, and Katheryn.
Myrtle Ann, she first married Shelby Anderson and then Elmer Jesse Davis.

The Matherly family, especially Jerry Matherly was a prime mover in the organization of New Hebron Church, and the removal of Sugar Grove's church building to the location of the new church.

The Matherlys, especially Jerry and Carrie and her famiy, the Welborns had attended Sugar Grove when that church existed halfway between what is now Dunmor and Penrod, on what is now the Skipworth Farm, and Jerry, Dan, John, and Fan Matherly Mayes and others of the Matherly Family were instrumental in many functions of the church at New Hebron. Dan's father-in-law, Rev. Jack Goodman was once again pastor there.

When the church was organized, a committee was appointed to secure land for a building, and the Sugar Grove building was acquired to move to the newly acquired land. The committee, in making its report, said this the final paragraph..... "We your committee, submit the following report: We have secured 1 and 1/2 acres of land out on the road from D. A. Sumner, and have moved and erected the Sugar Grove church building on this location. The house is completed and out of debt." Respecfully submitted, J. W. Matherly, Chairman...J. B. Mayes, Secretary, W. T. Carroll, D. R. Matherly, M. E. Gardner
*Note: Lina's hand-made stone is difficult to read. Another relative seems to think Lina died in 1883 instead of 1888. I changed her date of death to 1883. In addition, "Jerry" married second wife, Amanthis in 1886, so these dates seem more logical.
