John Thomas (Tom) Akin , 86, of Crossett, passed away April 15, 2016 at the LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, LA. Mr. Akin was born on August 13, 1929, in Weldon, LA to his parents Jacob and Clara Akin. He moved to Crossett in 1959 where he worked in the flooring business for many years. In the 1970's Mr. Akin began building and remodeling homes in the Crossett area. After he retired, he devoted a lot of time to his garden, giving away his crops to family and friends. He also continued to enjoy hunting, and fishing. He was a member of the Pine Street Church of Christ and served as a deacon, and a bible school teacher.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Ovaughn Bates Akin , and second wife, Kathrine Quimby Akin.

He is survived by one daughter Kay Gammel, of Crossett; three sons, Dan Akin and his wife, Debbie of Eldorado, Fred Akin and his wife, Karen of Crossett, and Ben Akin and his wife, Paula, of Algonquin, Illinois; Six grandchildren; eight great-grandchidren; and one sister Edna Whitson, of Shreveport , LA.

Funeral Services are 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 18th at the Pine Street Church of Christ in Crossett with Bro.Charles Harris officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time in the church annex building. A private family burial committal will follow the service in the Sycamore Grove - Church of Christ Cemetery in Eldorado, AR
