Norman R. Newbury was born February 13, 1930 in Santa Monica, California.
On February 11, 1949 Norman enlisted in the United States Navy where he served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on January 23, 1953.
In 1970, Norman was united in marriage to Delores Roush in San Jose, California.
He was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Hanover. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading, attending auctions, playing scrabble, and writing poetry. His greatest achievement was serving and caring for his wife whom he loved dearly. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Delores Newbury of Alta, Iowa; children: Jerri Long of Newell, Iowa; Lynn Hogrefe of Storm Lake, Iowa; John Survis of Alta, Iowa; Michelle (Brian) Kruger of Camus, Washington; son-in-law, Jon Winslow of Milford, Iowa; grandchildren: Troy (Andrea) Hogrefe; Melissa (Nathan) Snyder; Derek (Barb) Hogrefe; Tiffany (Dave) Stern; Jolee (Danny) Kjos; Justin (Shantel) Jewell; Anthony (Tea) Newbury; Desiree Coonrod; Xandria Coonrod; Patrick Survis; 21 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Everett (Shizu) Roush; sisters-in-law, Karen Roush and Shirley Freese; extended family and friends.
Norman was preceded in death by his daughter, Bobby Jo Winslow; son-in-law, Norman Hogrefe; infant granddaughter, Wendy Hogrefe; and two brothers-in-law, Gerald Roush and Gene Freese.
