Updated Jan 2015, biography provided by FAG member Gary Binam.

Mary B. Hobgood was born on Jan 16, 1821 in Granville County. After her mother died in 1833, she was indentured to Edward Hollister for a brief period of time. Then when her father, Hezekiah, married N.A.S. Anthony in Feb 1834, the apprentice bond was cancelled and Mary B. returned home. Later she left the Hobgood household prior to the census of 1840 and likely moved to Wake Co, NC. She would have been about 19-years-old. Two years later, at the age of 21 she would marry John R. Taylor in Wake Co. John Taylor had been born in SC in Jan 1817 and would die, probably in NC, sometime after 1900. They lived in Wake County for the remainder of their lives and had the following children: Corinth (NC 1848), Angus (NC 1850), William T. (NC 1852), John (NC 1854), Elizabeth (NC Jan 1856), Annie L. (NC 1858), Frank (NC 1861), and Mary (NC 1864).

Leonard Dean details a legal case she pursued in her later life which was resolved in 1892. Mary was not listed on the census taken in June 1900. She would have been 79.
