She was born November 11,1923 in Coweta, OK to Jake and Gertrude (Long) Cornelius. Helen was united in marriage to Rex L. Walker, who was in the Navy Air Corp at the time, on December 28, 1943 in Wichita, KS. After the war Helen and Rex joined her parents in ownership of Cornelius - Walker Grocery in Oklahoma City, OK for thirty years, retiring in 1975. Helen and Rex enjoyed their retirement years traveling, visiting children and grandchildren, hobbies and crafts. In 2009 Helen moved to Muskogee, OK to be near her son and ultimately to Scottsdale, AZ. Helen was a wonderful wife, mom and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, sewing, and crocheting. She held several positions in her church and enjoyed involvement in her children's activities. Most of all she relished time with her family and friends.
Helen was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Rex Walker, and her sisters Emma "Ruth" Cornelius Whitlow and Thelma "Jean" Cornelius Simkins - Olandese.
Special heartfelt thanks to the staff at Bridge Royal Homecare and Charter Hospice for their loving care of Helen at the end of her life.
There will be a Memorial/ Graveside Service on Wednesday, May 12 11:00 am at Resthaven Cemetery 500 SW 104th Street Oklahoma City, OK 73139. There will be a gathering after the service at the Resthaven Family Center for friends and family.
