Bobby Gene Tallant, 78, was born in Cashion, Oklahoma on December 20, 1934 to parents James and Coy (Burgess) Tallant. He passed away September 29, 2013 in Oklahoma City, OK. After losing his mother at the age of 14 months, Bobby went to live with his paternal grandparents John and Gertrude Tallant until the age of 5 at which time he rejoined his father James, big brother JW, sister Delores, stepmother Zelma and stepsister Margie on the family farm. Bobby attended various rural schools and Yukon public school until he joined the Oklahoma National Guard (45th Division, 179th Infantry) in 1950 at the age of 15. He served his country in Korea with the 179th Infantry and later re-enlisted in the regular army and was discharged in 1959. While living in California, and training under the GI Bill, he learned to be a welder. After several years, he decided to become a deep sea diver and welder. Although this was a difficult task- accomplished by few- Bobby worked hard and proudly achieved his diving certificates and was hired by Brown and Root Construction in New Orleans. Throughout his welding and diving career, he worked in various locations overseas. Bobby became a self-employed welder and eventually became a certified welding inspector and worked for several companies state side as a pipeline engineer. He remained active in his field until October 2012. Bobby was a member of the American Welding Society and was a long-time member of Yukon's American Legion Post 160. He lived his life to the fullest and will be deeply missed!
Bobby is survived by his son, Bobby Tallant of California; step-sister, Margie Mayes of Muskogee; devoted brother, JW Tallant and wife Carol of Yukon; four nieces, Barbara Tallant, Pam Brower, Barbara Stuller, and Serena Wilkerson; four nephews, Jimmy Tallant, Michael Wilkerson, Jason Brower, and Justin Brower; eight grandchildren, all living in California; and a host of friends word-wide.
