The funeral of Mrs. Lorett D Abbey Black was held from the family home at Arkwright Summit Saturday at 2:30 and was well attended. The Rev C.C. Ross of the Hamlet M.K. Church assisted by the Rev. Charles E. Pike of Cattaraugus, officiated. Burial was in the cemetery at Arkwright Summit. Mrs. Black was born March 3, 1848, the oldest daughter of the late James P and Olive L Ruttenbur Abbey, early settlers in Arkwright, coming from Cortland and Walworth, NY respectively. She died at her family home at Arkwright Summit October 17, 1935. Mrs. Black was married to the late Nicholas Black Dec. 30, 1874, who died August 10, 1919. She united with the Hamlet M.E. Church September 30, 1883 and has always upheld the ennobling influence of the church. She was also its first organist and a member of its Ladies' Aid society. She was the oldest member of the Hanover Grange, P. of H. No. 595. Surviving are her two sons, Arthur J. Black who lives in the home where Mrs. Black was born and Clarence N Black of the family home where she died and one granddaughter, Mrs. Robert M. Woolley. Those attending from away were Mrs. Etta Hooker, Mr and Mrs. C.D. Sessions, Mrs. Mabel Houck, Mrs. Bert Beebe, Mr and Mrs S. Ray Fairbanks, Mr and Mrs. Chauncey Ingham of Freedonia; Mrs. Rose De Shon, Mr and Mrs Will Swartz, Mr and Mrs Will O'Day, Buffalo; Mr and Mrs Henry Swartz and Daughter, Mr and Mrs Frank Swartz; Mrs. Louise Nenno, Mr and Mrs Frank Kern, Mr and Mrs Peter Viox, Mr and Mrs Edward Rensselaer of Hamburg; Mr and Mrs Jacob Loenard of Areade; Manuel Mendonsa of Hamburg; and others from Cassadaga, Forestville, Cherry Creek, South Dayton, Laona and Hamlet. Those acting as bearers were Sherman Ruttenbur, Fred Ruttenbur, Stanley Ruttenbur, Corel A Warner, Louis Budd and Howard G Livermore.
