Two children died Friday May 31, 1968 in an early morning fire that completely destroyed the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Cole, in Rainbow Hills subdivision, west of St. Charles.
Mrs. Cole is the former Leanna Jandt of Hinckley, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Jandt of rural Hinckley.
Mr. Cole was unable to reach the children who were sleeping in a second floor bedroom. When firemen arrived, they found Mr. Cole outside the home overcome by smoke and suffering from burns. He and his wife, suffering from shock, were both taken to Delnor Hospital in St Charles.
The cause of the fire is undetermined.
Funeral services for Douglas John, 4, born September 20, 1963, and Julie Ann, 1, born March 1, 1967, were Sunday, June 2, at 2 p.m. at the Union Congregational Church, North Aurora, with the Rev. David Gallop, officiating, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Hinckley
