Shirley Mae Haberman

Moses Lake, WA

Shirley Mae Haberman, Moses Lake, WA resident, passed away on the morning of Thursday, May 9, 2013. Shirley was born February 24, 1934, in Campbell, NE, daughter of the late Francis and Augustine Horton. She was the eldest of four children and graduated from St. Cecelia's High School in Hastings, NE. In 1952, she met Gerald Haberman in Hastings, NE and they married in 1953. Six children were born to this union: Greg, Susan, Angie, Daniel (Joe), Julie and Gerald John Jr. They made their home in Norfolk, then Hartington, then Hastings, NE. In 1962, the family moved to the Southern California area and settled in for over 20 years. The family grew up and Mom and Dad spent much of their time watching the children in sporting events and being involved in school and church functions. They loved to go dancing on Saturday nights and a Saturday steak barbecue was a regular happening during the warmer months. They made a few memorable road trips back to Nebraska with the whole family. In 1983, they followed two of their grown children to Wenatchee, WA. They lived in East Wenatchee for approximately 20 years and were members of Holy Apostles Catholic Church. Both were very devoted to their faith, and prayed the rosary together daily. Shirley loved to cook, and she was good at it. She loved making home cooked meals from scratch and enjoying them with extended family, especially the children and grandchildren. Everyone could never get enough of her famous Shirl's Swirls cinnamon rolls and other tasty desserts. She has worked at a variety of jobs through the years. An accounts payable clerk, motel housekeeper, and a kitchen hostess in a senior living facility were some of her occupations, but she was first and foremost a dedicated homemaker. In 2002, Shirley began to suffer from lower leg difficulties and was soon diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis, leaving her lower body paralyzed. In 2003, Gerald and Shirley celebrated 50 years of marriage. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Moses Lake, WA, where she was well cared for by her loving husband, Gerald and son, Joe. Shirley lost her loyal husband of 56 years, Jerry, in December of 2009.

She is survived by two sons: Joe Haberman of Moses Lake, and Greg Haberman and wife, Nona of Waterville, WA; three daughters, Sue and husband, John Sanders of Mason, OH, Angie and husband, Mark Kendall of Olalla, WA, and Julie and husband, Joe Segaline of Ephrata, WA; 16 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, Gerald; son, Gerald John Jr.; and her parents, Francis and Augustine Horton.

Visitation was held Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Kayser's Chapel. Holy Rosary will be prayed at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013, at St. Rose of Lima Church in Ephrata, immediately followed by the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery. Please sign the online guestbook at Arrangements are in care of Kayser's Chapel, Moses Lake, WA.
