Mrs. Adelia "Movelle" Sweeney, age 82 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Monday, October 16, 2006, at the Beverly Health Care Center. Mrs. Sweeney was born January 13, 1924, in Ashland, Mo., the daughter of William A. and Elizabeth Easterly Hawkins, both deceased. She was married on November 14, 1945, in Jefferson City, Mo., to Francis Joseph Sweeney, who survives at the home.
A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, Mrs. Sweeney graduated from Ashland High School, Ashland, Mo., and attended Warrensburg Teachers College, Warrensburg, Mo. She taught school in the Boone County Rural School and later was employed with the Missouri Adjutant General's Office for 34 years. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Doris Marie Brendel and her husband Ralph of Jefferson City, Mo.; one granddaughter, Michele Lynne Bailey of Jefferson City, Mo.; and one great-grandson, Andrew J. Bailey of Jefferson City, Mo. She was preceded in death by one brother, Russell Hawkins; and one sister, June Sievert.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 18, 2006, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Brendan Griffey officiating. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Freeman Mortuary from 9:30-11 a.m. Wednesday. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Father Flanagan's Girls and Boys Town, P.O. Box 7000, Boys Town, Nebraska 68010; the Camelite Monastery, 2210 West Main St., Jefferson City, Mo. 65109; or to the charity of their choice. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
