Esther Swatek, 99, Hayward, died Sunday, March 10, at Valley Health Care Center in Hayward.

She was born April 11, 1891, in Cedar Creek, Iowa, daughter of Henry and Mary (Meitzner) Raps. She attended school in Cedar Rapids and was married to Richard Swatek on April 23, 1921, in Chicago.They lived there until moving to Hayward in 1925. They operated the Fin & Feather near Moose Lake from 1925-1945. Esther was a member of First Congregational Church and active in its many programs and groups. She was also a Red Cross volunteer and a member of the Hayward Garden Club.

She is survived by two sons, David (Alice) of Hayward and Richard (Charlotte) of Greendale; four grandchildren; several nephews and nieces.

Her husband Richard died in 1964.

The funeral will be conducted at a later date at First Congregational Church in Hayward, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Hayward. Koerpel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to First Congregational Church of Hayward.

From Nancy Weise: Henry was her dad, born in Racine, WI 1858. Also her mother, Sarah B Meinser 1858, was born in WI. But their parents were from Germany. They married in Racine CO Jan 17, 1878.

She and Richard married Apr 23, 1921 in Chicago. She had a brother, John who lived and died in Hayward. He's buried next to her.
