Second Lieutenant Erwin Simmons was the son of G. Clifford and Mary (Conley) Simmons of the Town of Potter, Yates County, New York. He enlisted in the Army Air Force in July 1942, was commissioned and received his wings in 1943. He was send overseas to England in February of 1944 from where he flew numerous missions over Germany. He was reported Missing in Action as of May 12, 1944 having flown a mission over Germany. He was the husband of Dorothy Berlin Simmons.
