C. Richard Hedlund was born in Spruce Hill Township on October 11, 1904, the son of Frank and Karlina Hedlund. He was baptized and confirmed at Spruce Hill Lutheran Church and attended school at District #65 of Spruce Hill. He married Hattie Tunberg on March 27, 1937 at Holmes City, Minnesota. Dick's occupation was farming until 1953 and then he was employed by Calvary Lutheran Church as their custodian. Dick died on Tuesday, March 28, 1978 at the Douglas County Hospital. Prior to his death he was a resident of Bethel Manor. Survivors are step daughter and husband, Marlys and Dale Lindgren of Minneapolis; two step grandchildren, Bruce Lindgren and Mrs. Alex Hall both of Minneapolis; three sisters, Mrs. Agnes Carlson of Minneapolis; Mrs. Emma Swanson of Pendroy, Montana; and Mrs. Ida Peterson of Alexandria. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, four sisters and two brothers. Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 30, 1978, 11:00 a.m., at Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Marvin Larson and Dr. Ervin C. Malm officiating. Pallbearers were Bruce Lindgren, Kenneth Hall, Carlos Lordalen, Leonard Hanson, Hans Haugen and Lawrence Engstrand. Interment was in Christian Union Cemetery, Holmes City, Minnesota. Services directed by the Alexandria Funeral Home.
