Loris...Earl Jackson Spivey, Sr., age 88, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, October 3, 2013.

Mr. Spivey was born December 14, 1924, in Tabor City, NC, a son of the late Victor Grantham Spivey and the late Retha Prince Spivey. He was a member of Loris First Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Teacher and Deacon. He was a member of the adult choir. Mr. Spivey was a farmer and retired rural letter carrier. He was an active member of the Gideons International and Loris Rescue Squad. Mr. Spivey was predeceased by his wife, Eloise Elliott Spivey; four brothers, Edward Spivey, Wendell Spivey, Robert Spivey, and Richard Spivey; and one grandson, Duane Hardee.

Survivors include his two brothers, Herman Spivey and Donald Spivey; brother-in-law, Ben Elliott, sisters-in-law, Mary Elliott and Lil Elliott; and five children, Dr. Patricia S. and Swain Piver, Amy S. and Herman Hardwick, Rev. Earl J. and Lauretta Spivey, Scarlet S. and Dale Ellis, and Jean Ellen S. and Rev. Jerry Lumston; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Special thanks to caregivers, Mary, Caroline, Tara, and Bertha as well as Mercy Hospice for the care rendered to Mr. Spivey.

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 5, 2013, at Loris First Baptist Church with Dr. Jim Mezick officiating. Burial will follow in Twin City Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Saturday at the church.
