Genevive Nelda "Jenny" Severit, nee Kunz, 85, of Lebanon, Ill., born July 27, 1923, in St. Jacob, Ill., died Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, Ill.
Mrs. Severit was a loving mother, homemaker and after raising eight children she worked as a cook until retirement at Lebanon Bowling Alley. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Lebanon, Ill., Teamsters Retirees Club, VFW Post 1739 Auxiliary, Noble Grand Rebecca's Organization and past Grand. Jenny loved playing bingo and listen to country music.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Francis Severit Sr., whom she married on Dec. 4, 1943, and who died Jan. 15, 1995; a daughter, Deborah Thompson; her parents, Julius and Nettie, nee Bayer, Kunz; three brothers, Oliver, Earl and Edward Kunz; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Kunz and Lou Kunz; and a brother-in-law, Albert Arbogast.
Surviving are her children, Carolyn (Gary) Hutchings of Belleville, Ill., Norman (Donna) Severit Jr., of Edwardsville, Ill., Dwight Severit of Freeburg, Ill., David (Joan) Severit of Lakeland, Fla., Thomas (Myra) Severit of Troy, Ill., Gary Severit of Wentzville, Mo., and Kim (Lawrence) Axman of Irving, Texas; two brothers, Fremond (Vera) Kunz of Highland, Ill., and James Kunz of Trenton, Ill.; a sister, Virginia Arbogast of Lebanon, Ill.; sister-in-law, Mildred Kunz of Highland, Ill.; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to all of the employees at Cedar Ridge Healthcare of Lebanon and Memorial Hospital for making Jenny's last years special ones.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Southern Illinois.
Visitation: Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 11, 2009, at Meyer Funeral Home, Lebanon, Ill., and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2009, at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Lebanon, Ill.
Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2009, at St. Paul United Church of Christ, with Rev. Dr. Don Wagner officiating. Burial will be at College Hill Cemetery, Lebanon, Ill.
