Born Magdalen (or Magdelin) Berndsen, Sr. Celine professed to the Sisters of Charity. She was preceded in death by her sisters Clarissa (Clarice) Berndsen Katzbauer (Kotzbauer), Margaret Berndsen Gill, and Bette Berndsen. Her parents were Joseph H. Berndsen and Hilda A. Cook Berndsen.

Sr. Celine Marie spent 45 years as an educator. She served as either a teacher or principal in schools in Ohio, Illinois and Michigan.

In Cincinnati, She taught at St. Joseph Orphanage, St. Elizabeth in Norwood and St. Lawrence in Price Hill.

She earned a bachelor's degree in education from Athenaeum of Ohio and a bachelor's degree in English from the College of Mount St. Joseph.

For 5 years starting in 1971, She was an information clerk and a pastoral visitor at St. Joseph Hospital in Mount Clemens, Michigan. She returned to education in 1976, working as a tutor in Cleveland and later as a substitute teacher in Royal Oak, Michigan.

She retired in 1989. As a resident of the Sisters of Charity's Motherhouse, she worked as a seamstress and made arts and crafts for their fairs.
