She retired from Mayland Community College after many years both teaching and serving as director of the Nursing program for the last nine years of her teaching career. In addition, during her career, she taught at Duke University in the School of Nursing, staffed in the Cystic Fibrosis Clinic and later after relocating to Mitchell County became a family grief counselor to families who lost a child to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
Carol was an active member of both the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit in Mars Hill - participating in adult education, Village Initiative and the Caring Crew. She was a founding member of the Messiah of the Mountains Lutheran Church in Micaville, NC and was an active volunteer at the Shepherd's Staff Ministry in Spruce Pine.
She is survived by her husband, James of Spruce Pine, son Mark and daughter-in-law Barbara of Morristown, Tn., daughter Kristi and son-in-law Donald of Canandaigua, NY. and six loving grandchildren.
The Family will receive friends Saturday, October 5, 2013 from 1:00 until 3:00 pm at Pine Grove Methodist Church in Ingalls, NC. A memorial service to follow. Interment will be at a later date in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers and as a tribute to her legacy, the family requests donations to the Carol Cox Ingram Nursing Scholarship Fund at Mayland Community College in Spruce Pine, NC.
