HOLDER, DON A. A retired railroad conductor with 43 years of service with Illinois Central Railroad and a resident of Zachary, he passed away on Friday, July 21, 2006, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with Lou Gehrig's disease. He was 75 and a native of Miami. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and received the Korean Service Medal with a bronze service star, a United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Visiting at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., on Sunday, July 23, was from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting resumes at the funeral home on Monday from 11 a.m. until religious service at noon, conducted by the Rev. Darwin Enicks. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. He is survived by his wife of eight years, Syble R. Holder; son, Richard A. Holder and wife Sheryl of Oklahoma City; four stepdaughters and spouses, Dianne and Rick Evans, Judy and Winston Brown, Elaine and Marty Hughes and Pam and Tom Bolke; two sisters, Betty and husband Jerry Petty of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Donna Carney of Cambre, Ill.; 22 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lossie Holder; parents, Cora and Chester Holder; and three brothers. Pallbearers will be Richard Holder, Marty Hughes Sr., Marty Hughes Jr., Travis Hughes, Chris Hughes and Josh Curry. Honorary pallbearers are W.L. "Waldo" Green, Charlie Price and the Rev. Darwin Enicks. The family would like to express their deepest thanks to the RCU Unit at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center and especially, Dr. James Hargroder. .
