Mary Kathleen Criner Cheek, 98, passed away Monday, September 30, 2013 at Brookridge Retirement Community. She was born in Wilkes County to the late Sanford and Florence Rhoades Smithey. She was the longest active member of Salem Baptist Church, where a reception will be held at 10:30 Thursday, prior to services at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, Silas Creek Parkway, at 12 noon, followed by burial at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family invites you to visitation from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm--Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs Cheek retired from Reynolds Tobacco Company, completing almost 47 years of service. Her first husband, Albert, died in 1963 and she remarried Bob Cheek of Mocksville, NC in 1978. He preceded her in death. She is survived by her sons, Edie Criner and wife Liz of San Jose, CA, Larry Criner and wife Marilyn of HIghlands Ranch, CO, four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, and one brother, Jim Pinnix and wife Jean, of Winston Salem.
