Dr. Calvin Koch Is Found Dead Friday Evening

Lima Pediatrician Was World War II Veteran; Funeral Will Be Monday

Dr. Calvin Oscar Koch, 33, Lima pediatrician and recently discharged World War II veteran, died early Friday afternoon from self-inflicted gunshot wounds. His body was found at 7:30 p.m. in a wooded section off Robb-av near the Cole-st-rd.

Allen-co Coroner Harry E. Lewis said his investigation had revealed the victim, a veteran of 46 months in the South Pacific, had suffered from a neurosis. He lived at 420 W. Grand-av.

Deputy Sheriffs William Musser and George Burden discovered the body after they were requested by Noel Avery, Lima Rout 7, to investigate a man with a gun in the neighborhood.

Born Oct. 17, 1912, Dr. Koch was a graduate of Central high school, from which he earned a scholarship to Miami university at Oxford. After being graduated from Miami, he entered Cincinnati medical school, from which he emerged as a pediatrics specialist in 1938.

Prior to entering the Army medical corps in June, 1942, with the commission of first lieutenant, Dr. Koch served as resident physician at the Children's hospital, Cincinnati, for three years and as instructor at the Texas medical school, Galveston, Tex.

Following war service at New Guinea and Manila, Dr. Koch was assigned to the medical commission which was appointed to study effects of the atomic bomb at Hiroshima.

He returned to this country in January as a captain and was discharged with that rank last April. He opened offices in the National Bank-bldg, July 1.

Surviving are his widow, Mary; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Koch, 724 N. West-st, and a sister, Mrs. Robert Abderhalden, 724 N. West-st.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Lewis memorial chapel at 3:30 p.m. Monday by Rev. Paul Graeser. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery. The body will remain at the funeral home until time of services.
