Cheryl Kay Nurss Smart, age 63, formerly of Moab, passed away Aug. 28, 2013, at the Uintah Basin Medical Center from natural causes.

Cheryl was born Jan. 1, 1950, in Tacoma, Wash., to Leon Maxwell and Geraldine Gransbury Nurss. She married Allan Cross; they later divorced.

Cheryl loved the outdoors, especially the mountains. She enjoyed taking long rides to see the beautiful scenery, going fishing, camping and especially loved wolves.

She liked to get dressed up, get her makeup on, hair looking nice and spend an evening having fun. Her greatest joy was her family; she cherished her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had many friends, and all who knew her loved her.

She is survived by her children, Rex (Leandra Warrick) Cross, Gunnison, Sherry (Paul) Boren, Roosevelt, and step-son, Gary (Helena Marvin) Cross, Roosevelt; 24 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; her mother, Geraldine "Jerry" McCammon, Rupert, Idaho; siblings, Ronda (Wayne) Robnett, Stanley, Idaho, Dusty Allen McCammon, Buhl, Idaho, and Barry Ray McCammon, Gilcrest, Colo. Terry Davis and Jack Houskeeper were two men who meant the world to her. She also had an adopted son, Billy Houskeeper, of whom she was very proud.

She is preceded in death by her father, Leon Maxwell Nurss; and siblings, Norma Jean Nurss, Leta Rose McCammon and Karl Gene McCammon.

Graveside services were held on Saturday, Aug. 31, at the Neola Cemetery. A viewing was held at the Hullinger Mortuary.
