Bessie Harris Dunn Lee Rayford was born to the late John and Beatrice Griffin Harris on January 5, 1918 in Wake County, North Carolina. She departed this life, September 19, 2005, at City of Oaks Health & Rehab-Raleigh, North Carolina.
Bessie attended Wake County Public Schools. She was a dedicated member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist church for many years until her health prevented her continued involvement. Bessie was a Deaconess and a member of the Missionary Circle. She loved working in her church and community. She was a cook for the Governor Morehead School, Raleigh, North Carolina for many years until retirement. Bessie Dunn Lee Rayford was preceded in death by a daughter, Lovie Mae Dunn, two sisters, Clara Harris Dye, and Irene Harris Peppers, three brothers:Earnest Harris, Johnnie Harris, and Harvey Harris. She leaves to cherish her memory; her husband Robert Earnest Rayford, five stepdaughters, Ernestine Curtis, Beulah Rayford Closs, Wennie Faye Scarborough (Charles), Luzelia Rayford Cheek (James) and Josephine Bailey (Milton) all of Raleigh, North Carolina. Six Grand Children, Thirteen Step Grand Children, Twenty Two Great Grand Children, Twenty Six Step Grand Children, Sixteen Great, Great Grand Children and three step great, Great Grand children. She also raised eight foster children.
