Robert ( Jim ) was born to Isaiah and Maggie Hartley and had five siblings as follows: Mildred J. b.1906-d.1979; Mary R, b.1908-d.1994; Verdie, b.1910-d.1933; Murray H., Sr., b.1913 -d.1980; Margaret A., b.1917-d.1951. In 1922, when both parents died, Verdie, Murray, Robert, and Margaret were placed in the Evangelical Home for Orphaned Children, in Lewisburg, Pa. They remained there until they were 18 years of age. Robert married Rhoda Catherman and there were six children born of this union as follows: John C. d.1973, Robert T., Thomas E., David C. (deceased) Betty R., and Glenn R.. Robert farmed in the Middleburg, Pa. area for several years and then was employed by Faylor, Middlecreek Construction, Winfield, Pa. He lived on Gilead Heights, Winfield, Union Co., Pa., until his death of a heart attack.
