He was born to August Reinhold Ender & Johanne Christine Vietze. He immigrated to the U.S. with his parents and 3 siblings in 1882. The Ender family settled in Fedor, Lee County TX. Carl married Johanna "Emma" Symmank on May 7, 1887 in Lee County TX. Shortly after their marriage they left Lee County & lived in Coryell County TX, then Hill County TX & finally McLennan County TX. Carl & Emma had 3 daughters & 5 sons. Carl became a naturalized citizen in 1919. He was a farmer & also involved himself in blacksmithing & building. He raised and bred horses. While he lived in Penelope TX he helped build a church for an African-American congregation. He also helped to build Lutheran churches in McGregor TX and The Grove TX. He was a member of the Lutheran faith. In his younger years, he played the organ in church.
