Professional Basketball Player. An Indiana state basketball star, he led the Lebanon's "Tigers" to the 1943 State Championship game, losing by a narrow margin to Fort Wayne Central's "Tigers." Immediately after high school, he signed a contract to play professionally at Sheboygan, Michigan. His scoring records at Lebanon endured until eclipsed by his son Rick, who was the 1966 Indiana "Mr. Basketball" and who became the first high school basketball player to have his picture on the cover of "Sports Illustrated" magazine. Rick became an All-American at Purdue and played professionally with the Indiana Pacers, Kentucky Colonels, Memphis Tams and Utah Stars. Pete's grandson Richie also became a Lebanon High School basketball star who later played for Purdue.
