Barbara Ann Nusbaum Van Orden Nease, 73, of Lakeland, Fla., formerly of Union Bridge, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at Palm Terrace Nursing Home in Lakeland, following an extended illness.

Born July 26, 1940, in Union Bridge, she was the daughter of the late Lester K. and Helena C. Eyler Nusbaum. She was the wife of Peter Van Orden, who died in 2001.

She was a 1958 graduate of Elmer Wolfe High School. She had worked for Evan, Hogan and Houdeffer as a secretary for a number of years. She was a member of VFW Post 8806 Auxiliary of Union Bridge.

She was an avid reader and also enjoyed crafts, animals, the Baltimore Ravens and Orioles.

Surviving are daughters Melissa Fritz, of Union Bridge, Tessa O'Brien and husband Mike, of Lovettsville, Va., and Kelly Hobbs and husband Patrick, of LaPlata; grandchildren Allison, Alan, Michael, Megan, Garrett, Colin and Aidan; sisters Ella Fay Harman, and Christine Devilbiss and husband Bruce, all of Union Bridge; brother Darlow Nusbaum and wife Norma, of Thurmont; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service, 1 p.m. Saturday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge, with her nephew, Lenny Mills, leading the service. Interment will follow in Rocky Hill Cemetery in Woodsboro.
