Harris Johnson, 78, of Drayton, North Dakota passed away at Unity Medical Center in Grafton on Friday morning, September 25, 2009.
Harris Cameron Johnson was born April 8, 1931 on the family farm in Eagle Point Township of Marshall County, Minnesota, the son of Clarence and Hilda (Wilmar) Johnson. He was a graduate of the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, Minnesota.
Harris served with the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. On March 14, 1953 he was united in marriage to Harriet Jensen. They settled in Robbin, Minnesota and in 1963 built a home there. Harris began farming with his father and brother and in 1982 started farming with his sons, Lon and Lynn.
Harris and Harriet loved to travel and spent many winters in their favorite place, Alamo, Texas. They also traveled to Tahiti, Alaska and Hawaii. Harris was an active member of Skjeberg Lutheran Church and church council ; served on the Kennedy School Board; and the Kittson County Rural Water Board. His greatest love was farming and only his failing health kept him from going to the farm everyday.
In addition to travel, he also enjoyed curling, bowling and playing bingo. Harris adored his precious grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He and Harriet entered the Lutheran Sunset Home in Grafton earlier this year.
Family members include his wife; a sons, Lon (Cindy) Johnson, Drayton and Lynn (Kristi) Johnson also of Drayton; a daughter, Lori (Lee) Osowski, Grafton, ND; a brother, Alden (Linda) Johnson, Stephen, MN; and 11 grandchildren, Amber (Troy) Redmann, Brittany and Blake Johnson, Corey and Darcey Lundberg, Rachel and Danielle Osowski, Taylor, Madison, Samuel and Carter Johnson; as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. in Skjeberg Lutheran Church, rural Drayton.
Visitation will be on Monday at the Austin-Adamson Funeral Home in Drayton from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
