Motion Picture Screenwriter, Producer. The son of Hammer Studios founder William Hinds, he played a significant role in the company's success. For 20-years, he acted as scriptwriter and produced nearly every notable feature the entity yielded. After studying at St. Paul's School in London, he joined his father's company and served as producer for the picture "Who Killed Van Loon?" (1948). Under the name of John Elder, Hinds penned scripts to such classic Hammer pictures as "The Brides of Dracula" (1960), "The Phantom of the Opera" (1962), "The Evil of Frankenstein" (1964) and "Dracula Has Risen From the Grave". As a producer, such films as "Quatermass Xperiment" (1955), "The Curse of Frankenstein" (1957) and "The Horror of Dracula" (1958), "The Hound and the Baskervilles" (1959) resulted. Additionally, the careers of legendary actors Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee were enhanced.
