Mrs. Jane D. Gourley Answers Death's Call
Aged Woman Long Prominent in Church - Funeral Tuesday
Mrs. Jane Deer Gourley, wife of C. C. Gourley, and one of Johnson County's well-known and beloved women, died at her home at 99 South Hougham Street Friday evening at 1 o'clock, following a long illness from arterio-sclerosis and complications.
Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10 o'clock at the home, followed by burial in Hopewell Cemetery. Announcement was made at the home this morning that friends may call at any time.
Native of County
Mrs. Gourley whose maiden name was Jane Simpson was born in this county and had spent her entire life of 78 years here. In her girlhood she united with the Providence Christian Church and until coming to Franklin she took a genuine interest in the Providence Church, her home being noted for its open door to ministers and church people. After coming here she affiliated with the Franklin Christian Church.
Mrs. Gourley was twice married. Her first husband was Henry J. Deer, who died 25 years ago. To this union six children were born, four of whom survive. The surviving children are Mrs. J. H. Dresslar, of Franklin, Mrs. E. L. Bridges, of Indianapolis, L. M. Deer of University Heights, and Ira Deer, of Providence. The two children who have died are Joe Deer and Mrs. Jessie Deer Hoover. About six years ago, Mrs. Gourley was married to C. C. Gourley, who survives.
