The obituary of his daughter, Lucie C. Beard, appeared on page 7 of the New York Times on September 12th 1946. She founded Miss Beard's School in Orange NJ in 1891 with the help of her two sisters, (Mrs. Iyram) Hester Truslow Foster of Derby VT and Eliza M. Beard. Lucie died on Wednesday, September 11th 1946, at her home "Green Shutters" on Berkeley Avenue in Orange NJ. Her mother's name was Hester T. Beard. According to the article Mrs. Foster was her only survivor, however, two nieces, Katherine Sheldon Camp and Hester Sheldon Meyer, were noted. Services were held at the Colonial House of the School , 317 Tremont Avenue, Orange NJ. - interment private.

In earlier records he was Baird hence his parents are buried as Baird. He changed name to Beard as did one of his brothers.
